In addition to Ruffing's After School Care program, the new AHA! Classes will offer the option of trying new activities four days a week from 3:15 to 4:30. Taught by professionals in the fields of study, students have a wide range of choices. Spring semester will repeat some of these options and add new ones, so children will have the opportunity for many fun choices. AHA! Winter and Spring Camps will be offered over school holidays. In the event of insufficient enrollment, a course offering may be cancelled. Programs Bookclub: Come with your own books or borrow from our library. We will give reports, keep journals, have discussions. D Kosmin Grades 2-4 Monday Chess: Chess for Success will help you learn the basic rules and principles, tactical themes and check mate patterns. Supportive teaching, lessons and open chess play for all. C Marshall Grades 1-8 Tuesday Climbing Wall/Gym Games: With our certified instructor, learn to scale our exciting new climbing wall. Become the rock climber of your dreams. Play fun games while you wait your climbs minimum per class. F Barnett Grades 1-6 Thursday Comedy Is Central! Did you know the more serious you act – the funnier you become? Join us to explore humor, refine our abilities to create unique caricatures and learn how to stand up and tell a good joke! Our final class will be a performance for friends and family. C Bodenger Grades 6-8 Wednesday Digital Creation/ Animation: Come explore the history of animation, build thaumatropes, zeotropes and progress to flip books. Use paper, scissors, cameras, computers, flexible manikins and LEGOS. We will document the entire process using the video function of digital cameras! L Pacini Grades 4-6 Thursday Digital Creation/ Photography: Bring your own camera to develop and expand your photography and image editing skills. Capture an image and use Adobe Photoshop Elements to explore many of the creative features included. L Pacini Grades 4-6 Tuesday Fencing: Promoting physical, mental and emotional growth, this Olympic sport is fun and challenging. Fitness, control, concentration, coordination, speed, discipline and judgment are honed to promote accomplishment. P Doyle Grades 1-8 Tuesday Guitar Ensemble: The guitar is one of the most popular instruments today. Learn to play this enjoyable instrument in a comfortable group setting. All students are welcome, whether you have never touched a guitar before or you have been playing for years. Bring in your own guitar if possible or one will be provided. F Azem Grades 3- 6 Wednesday Improv Theatre Through skits and scenes we play with all the made-up people in our imaginations and discover new characters hiding there. We’ll have lots of fun interacting in theatre games. We’ll check out some simple folktales and perform our favorite during the final class time. C Bodenger Grades 1-3 Monday Kitchen Studio: Make and bake foods from scratch while learning about healthy ingredients. You’ll take a treat home each week and use the recipes to create your own beautiful cookbook. Enjoy sharing your recipes and your creations with your family at home! C Bodenger/ (Class size limit: 8) Grades 1-3 Wednesday Open Art Studio: Come explore your favorite type of media and express your creative self. Whether it is painting, drawing, print making, collage, sculpturerelease your inner artist in our open art studio. There will be weekly projects to participate in if you need some ideas to get started. Y Nosal Grades 1-4 Monday Y Nosal Grades 5-8 Wednesday Yoga: Learn gentle postures, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Develop confidence, concentration, and stress management. Yoga is fun and can help you participate more fully at home and school. A Hakeem Grades 1-4 Tuesday Guitar: Arrange 1/2 hr lesson with Faris Azem 440-785-7897 Monday-Friday Ruffing parents are welcome to take private lessons. Spring Camp - March 17-28 - Community art-making for a Ruffing entry in Parade the Circle: morning workshop in parade-making and afternoons in group drumming techniques and drum-building. Alternative choices of Cooking and Dance will also be offered. Flyers will be sent for registration.
