Ruffing’s Lower Elementary is a three-year academic program for children ages 6-9 years old in grades 1, 2, and 3. Each classroom is multi-aged and guided by experienced Montessori-trained elementary faculty. Our teachers are able to develop close relationships with their students over the course of three years so as to become keenly attuned to the unique personality and academic needs of each child.
The Montessori elementary curriculum is expressly designed to ignite the spark of your child’s natural curiosity. More than simply providing a strong foundation in all of the core subjects, children investigate and study in detail the disciplines of science, mathematics, cultural studies, geography, language, reading and writing, through which they discover the interconnectedness of our world.
Our Lower Elementary students also participate in Spanish, art, music, and physical education on a weekly basis, with many opportunities for field trips and excursions in the greater community. Ruffing’s Lower Elementary experience embraces the 6-9 year-old child, nurturing their innate love of learning, and guiding them to develop confidence, compassion and leadership skills.
