Athletics

Athletics are an important part of the Ruffing Upper Elementary and Middle School experience, building community for both those who play and those who cheer on their classmates.  Ruffing embraces the life lessons provided by interscholastic team sports and offers a variety of opportunities for students.

Soccer (coed)

Ruffing plays a fall schedule of at least ten games against other independent schools in the Eastern Independent School League. Skill development, ball handling and position play are emphasized, while games give players the opportunity to fine tune skills and to work as a team to implement plays.

Cross Country (coed)

A new program to Ruffing, the cross country team practices and competes throughout the fall season. Coaches instill a love of the sport in a supportive and encouraging community while teaching the fundamentals of distance running.

Girls Volleyball

Ruffing’s volleyball team competes in the Eastern Independent School League. The team provides an opportunity to learn fundamentals and enhance skills. There is an emphasis on and teamwork, effort, attitude and commitment.

Basketball/Boys & Girls

Ruffing offers both a girls and a boys team and competes in the Eastern Independent School League from November through February. The focus is on skill development and teamwork.

Ultimate Frisbee (coed)

Competing in the Eastern Independent School League, Ruffing’s Ultimate Frisbee team is co-ed and 'spirit of the game' places the responsibility of fair play solely on the student athletes. Approximately ten games are played in the late spring.

Developmental Teams & Club Athletics

Based on the interest of our Upper Elementary and Middle School students, Ruffing offers clinics and developmental opportunities for various sports. In the past few years, Ruffing students have participated in organized practices and/or activities led by either parent volunteer coaches or faculty members.
